AGI video technical manuals

5/24/2005

The American Gunsmithing Institute offers a wide variety of instructional videotapes for the shooter and gunsmith. These are divided into two different varieties. They provide a very complete series on most popular firearms oriented to the professional gunsmith and to those desiring to enter this trade. The other library of videos are directed to the individual firearms owner.

The tape 1 recently reviewed focused on the popular Ruger 10-22 rifles. Runtime of this tape is 1 hour, 21 minutes. This tape shows not only how to field strip these rifles, it continues into detailed dissasembly and explanation of all functions of the rifle.

This is made possible in part through use of a cut-away rifle that the instructor utilizes to show the operation of components normally hidden from view. It is a great aid to understanding the mechanism.

The instructor is Robert Dunlap, a gunsmith of 35 year's experience and the senior instructor at Lassen College. He knows the subject and does a very good job of communicating this knowledge.

The videos are well done, with good close-up views where needed. The production quality won't startle Hollywood. The lighting is a little harsh, and there is an occasional awkward moment. But you buy these videos for information -- and the information is there. If you have questions about your firearms, or would like to learn how to do more than the most basic maintenance yourself, these tapes are a good investment. They are offered for a wide variety of the most popular rifles, pistols and shotguns. Check out AGI's Website or give them a call to learn what is available.
